A new study suggests a simple remedy that may help relieve stress, restlessness, and overall gloom—exercising for at least 150 minutes per week at moderate intensity.
Researchers from the University of Iowa found that people who maintained good exercise habits throughout the shelter-in-place order had better mental resilience than those who became less active.
The study included 3,000 healthy, nonsmoking men and women aged between 18 and their mid-80s.
People who once had been active but rarely exercised now were significantly more likely to feel depressed, anxious, and lonely.
On the other hand, people who had continued to work out for at least 150 minutes a week were more mentally resilient.
Note that this study is preliminary and not yet peer-reviewed, although its findings are certainly plausible given that exercise has been shown to improve mood.
Your Apeiron Life exercise program is designed to help you achieve at least 150 minutes of weekly exercise, but likely more depending on your personal goals and focus areas.
